See you never?

There have been times in the past five years where I have felt like a fish out of water. Winnipeg has stood in as home, but has never supplanted the concept of home that I feel in British Columbia - if that makes any sense. I have largely taken the path of least resistance since 2012 when I returned from CMU's Outtatown Program; all I had to do was fill out a single sided form in order to be accepted into a Bachelor of Arts program at CMU for the upcoming fall. Too easy!

I completed my Bachelor of Arts in the spring of 2016, majoring in International Development Studies. Due to my heavy course load in my final semester, compounded by my commitment to the men's athletics program (soccer/futsal) and my part-time employment at Fools and Horses, I did not make any plans immediately following graduation. I was content to continue my informal, experiential learning in coffee while taking advantage of my the lowest rent payments I will ever come across in my adult life. Two months ago, one of my now-former roommates, Blayne, got married and moved out of our house on Pulford. This was quickly followed by Danika, who stepped up to the altar just over a month after Blayne. The anticipation of their departure is in some part the reason for my impending departure from Winnipeg. I may have mentioned this in my "about" section, but I have no family in Winnipeg. I have a lot of really great friends that I have made throughout the duration of my time in this city, but friends don't ever fully replace family. This trip, my changing roommate situation, and my lack of family in Winnipeg has all contributed in my decision to move my belongings back to BC while I am away travelling. With everything moved to BC, I can take advantage of that support system for free/inexpensive storage, and a place to stay when I begin to get my feet back under me after my trip. In reality it isn't all that difficult for me to move back to Winnipeg after coming back from this trip, but I'm not sure how likely that is. I suppose I will have plenty of time to dwell on this predicament over the next year or so.
